Dr. Vincenzo Sarnicola is the Director of the Clinica degli Occhi Sarnicola (“Sarnicola Eye Clinic”) in Italy and Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Siena. He attended the University of Florence of Medicine and trained in Ophthalmology at the University of Siena. In the first part of his career he specialized at the Columbia University gaining the title of “Expert in Strabismus”.
Dr. Sarnicola formerly was the first President for the Eucornea (European Society of Cornea and Ocular Surface Diseases) in 2009. He was also a member of the board of the SOI (Italian Ophthalmology Society), board member of Cornea Society, and board member of the International Committee AAO (American Academy of Ophthalmology). Now serves as the President of S.I.C.S.S.O. (Italian Society of Ocular Surface an Stem Cells), and as a board member of Eucornea (European Society of Cornea and Ocular Surface Diseases).
He has a national and international reputation for his knowledge and expertise in the field of cornea and external disease, especially in the context of lamellar keratoplasty. He is frequently invited to attend lectures both nationally and internationally. Dr. Sarnicola performed over 16.000 surgical procedures with expertise in lamellar keratoplasty. He described the “Cannula Big Bubble” and “Airviscobubble” surgical techniques about deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty. He also described “The adjustable faden operation in strabismus surgery”.
He was awarded with the 2013 Achivement Award from AAO and other previous prizes. He also has organized and participated in 9 humanitarian missions in the third world.
His clinical interests include Corneal Transplantation, Cataract Surgery, Ocular Surface Transplantation, Refractive Surgery, Glaucoma and Strabismus.
